Deep Tissue Massage is a form of massage that aims to relieve tension in the body’s more profound tissue layers. This can be used used in conjunction with other techniques and is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries like sport-related injuries.
Slow and methodical strokes are applied to the top layers of affected areas in order to penetrate to deeper muscle layers and achieve lasting relief from chronic pain. For the nature of the deep tissue work, open communication during the session is crucial to make sure you don’t get too uncomfortable.
Some conditions that require deep tissue massage often derive from work-related posture problems or sports injuries. Aside from those, problems that have developed from ongoing stress and tension, resulting in persistent muscle pain commonly occur in the neck, lower back, shoulders, hips, arms, and legs.
During a Deep Tissue Massage:
Before a deep tissue massage session begins, I will go over some questions with you, to know more about your particular problem area(s).
I’ll leave the room and return once you’re ready. I will ask you to lie on your back or stomach, under a comfortable sheet. The level of undress is based on your comfort, but only the area(s) that needs worked will be exposed.
To start the massage, i’ll warm up your muscles using a lighter touch and ease into deeper tissues. After the warm-up, we will start working on your problem areas. We will use deep kneading and stroking with varying amounts of intense pressure needed for the problematic area(s).
Benefits of Deep Tissue Massage Include:
- Release of tension and tightened muscles in affected areas
- Chronic pain relief
- Improved flexibility and mobility
